Why Breath Test?

Breath testing is used to estimate a person's "Blood Alcohol Concentration" (or BAC), which provides an index of the level of alcohol concentration that is present throughout the body fluids. After passing through the small intestine and the stomach, alcohol enters into the blood stream after which it is distributed throughout the body into the water-soluble body fluids. Some of this alcohol is excreted, around two percent of which is released in the form of urine, sweat, and breath. It is this excretion of unchanged alcohol ions contained in breath particles that enables "breath testing" to be performed.

Breath, blood, and urine tests can all be performed to help determine the level of blood alcohol concentration at any given time. However, there are some advantages with using breath testing against the other methods:

Non-Invasive
Unlike blood testing, breath testing is simple to execute, with no cumbersome equipment necessary, no risks of blood contaminants associated with the use of invasive implements, the result is known quickly, and testing can be performed anytime, anywhere. The determination of the range of your BAC is reliable, and is simple and fast enough to be useful without interfering with the flow of your day. Also, a single IMSMAAT unit can enable more than one person to perform a breath test, unlike other forms of testing that require the use of a needle or urine sample.

Hygienic
When a breath test has been properly performed, no exchange of harmful bacteria occurs between users of the instrument. When used according to instructions, the breath alcohol particles received by the sensor inside the IMSMAAT Breathanalyser are present for long enough to yield a test result, but after a few minutes, they dissipate into the air, allowing for another test to be performed. Unlike a urine test, no handling of unhygienic substances or cumbersome containers is necessary, since the sensor inside the IMSMAAT unit is located near the front of the exhalation vent, allowing a non-contact stream of air to quickly and easily yield a result. No fuss, no mess!

Reliable
Unlike urine testing, breath testing has been accepted to yield alcohol test results that are considered to be more accurate, and therefore more reliable results when determining the range of an individuals' blood alcohol concentration. Given that the concentration of alcohol in the urine is affected by the volume of water present, the reading can vary depending upon the level of dehydration of the individual, and also whether or not the person has consumed other diuretics that are not alcohol such as coffee, tea, or certain medications.
